Stop Apologizing

Stop apologizing. Are you even really sorry? Sure, perhaps for some grave misdeeds, but in reality – if you’re a few minutes late for a meeting, forget your nephew’s birthday, spoke over someone – whatever. Let it go.

Words are spells. The more you apologize, the more you convince yourself you are inconveniencing others. The more you convince yourself your existence is a burden. You cannot do anything right. Words are spells.

Try instead, ‘Thank you for your patience.’ ‘Thank you for understanding.’ Because words only take us so far. Truly apologizes are changed actions. Start showing up on-time or keep an improved calendar, or learn more about active listening. If you continue the same apology-inducing behavior and continue apologizing, people will identity, ‘Oh that him, he’s always that way.’ And you will continue apologizing. Is it really a big deal?

Often others can be annoyed at excessive apologizing. However, rarely does one think of the compulsion to drive the repeated sorry-ing. How must it make one feel when they have to constantly validate why they did not live up to an expectation? Or excuse themselves for being sub-par? Highlight themselves for being less than.

For the excessive apologizer, they do not regard themselves in high esteem. What may start as a polite habit turns into an impulse to prove they are aware of said expectations they did not live up to.

I am not talking about perennial apologizers. In truth, I do not see apologies necessary. For as I states, the truest apologies are changed action.

To dig at a deeper esoteric level, the person you are always apologizing to is yourself. You got yourself into a career where you are constantly disappointing your boss, ‘I’m sorry self.’ You got into a relationship that turned abusive, ‘I’m sorry self.’ However, again the truest apology would be to find a job, relationship more aligned with your needed rhythm.

To fly a bit higher, these changed actions can be dissolution of karma. If soul contracts dictate difficult experience to teach us lessons, is there truly even a person to apologize to? In this same essence, you are always where you are meant to be. Even in the depths of despair, you are perfect. Understanding the holes you fall in or cracks you trip upon, so that the mistakes you make are new mistakes.

Affirmations: Everything is happening best case scenario. I am exactly where I need to be. I am thankful for my life lessons. I respect my life choices. I love myself because I make mistakes.
